MILESTONES

We are what we repeatedly do
Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit

 - Aristotle

In the last decade, quality has been the buzz word in the educational domain, driving institutions to scale higher in the delivery of academic programmes. Keenly   aware that, excellence is never an accident   but is the result of right intention, sincere effort, intelligent thinking and skillful execution, there has been a concerted effort on the part of the College to create mechanisms and develop competencies to assure and enhance quality among its members. Its motto “Seek Share Serve” has remained the foundational philosophy guiding the College in its quest for distinction.

NAAC

As part of its continued endeavor to enhance and sustain quality in all aspects of higher education imparted in the college, in 2010 AASC applied for Accreditation by NAAC [National Assessment and Accreditation Council], an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.  The institution submitted its Self Study Report in June 2011 and is currently in the process of preparing for the Peer Team Visit by the NAAC Team.

Students in Free Enterprise [SIFE  October 2009]

The Alpha SIFE team, three times National Champions, hit International headlines, when they won the runners-up position at the SIFE World Cup in 2009 at Berlin, Germany. This exciting win was a fitting sequel to their Bronze medal victory in 2008 at Singapore and finalist position in 2006 in Paris.

ALPHA SIFE carried out three entrepreneurship programmess -two of which were completely new (Tomato Pulping and Environmental Sustainability) and the other, Seaweed Cultivation which has influenced exponential growth since 2007. These projects dealt with introducing business opportunities to India's most efficient population -the agro based community.

The team travelled to Hosur and with the help of their Business Advisory Board Members introduced 120 farmers to pulping of a small portion of tomato produce. This stabilized their income from a meager Rs. 2,000 per month to almost Rs. 12,500 per month.

The second project focused on Environmental Sustainability. Partnering with SIFE NOTTINGHAM, the teams introduced organic farming and vermiculture in Pulicat, to enhance fodder production.

Seaweed Cultivation, Alpha SIFE's core project in 2008 focused on sustainability during the year. This project was chosen for the Internationally Acclaimed Climate Change Championship 2009, by the British Council.
