About
Us
Biomedical Engineering has been
a graduate program within the Alpha college of
Engineering since 2006. Since that time, numerous
students have gone on to take positions within
academic institutions and in industry. Our students
and faculty to work together extensively to build
interdisciplinary knowledge in the areas of medicine,
molecular and cellular biology, and engineering.
Department
Mission
The Department of Biomedical Engineering
serves the university, the community, and the
biomedical engineering profession through education,
research and design activities. The Department
offers innovative educational programs that integrate
biological sciences and engineering, and apply
engineering tools, methods and practices to solve
problems in biology and medicine. Graduates of
our programs are highly skilled biomedical engineers
who understand the ethical, social and economic
implications of their work.
Program
Objectives
The educational objectives for
the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering program
are :
1. Graduates of the Biomedical
Engineering program have the ability to create
innovative solutions to problems in the life sciences
and clinical applications such as medicine, dentistry,
nursing and physical therapy.
2. Graduates of the Biomedical
Engineering program who enter the work force have
the ability to succeed by:
a. Obtaining their first promotion,
b. Being a productive member of an engineering
team,
c. Demonstrating individual technical capability,
d. Developing a new biomedical device or process
e. Generating high quality technical documentation,
f. Pursuing continuing education.
3. Graduates of the Biomedical
Engineering program function as productive members
of the profession and society with an understanding
of the social, ethical, environmental, economic
and global ramifications of their work as demonstrated
by some of the following:
a. Membership in professional
organizations
b. Community service
c. Evidence of commitment to life long learning.
