Singapore Student Visitors to Chennai Alpha School July 2008

20 students of Millennia Institute, Singapore, visited recently Alpha Matriculation School, for a classroom immersion and interaction session. Sponsored by Singapore Ministry of Education, the trip was organized to promote cross cultural relationship and to learn about educational systems followed in India.

Students of Millennia Institute interacted with higher secondary students of Alpha and during the interaction has a comparative study on the economics of India and Singapore, discussed the role of family in the up bringing of the child in both countries and also participated in lively debate.

Ms. Grace George, Correspondent - Alpha Group of Institutions said, "The visit of Millenia school students will surely pay rich dividends. It has exposed both the school students to innovative learning methodologies. We are planning to sign up a MoU with the school for students exchange program which will enrich knowledge on our learning system, culture and heritage for the participating student".

The Singapore team headed by Mr. S. Senguttuvan - Tamil Department, Millenia Institute comprised of 3 teaching faculty and 20 students. The teachers of Millennia were impressed with the student centered interactive learning methodologies practiced at Alpha Group of Institutions. Singapore students also visited places of cultural and historic importance in Chennai and Puducherry as part of their cultural tour.

Millenia Institute is a centralized institution providing "A' level education for three years in Arts & Science stream and is the only institution to offer comprehensive course for the commerce stream.

Alpha Group's Initiative

It is an activity-filled week for the Alpha Group of Educational Institutions. A five-day training programme on 'IT Workforce development initiative' was inaugurated on 16th of April '07.

Jointly organised by Sun Microsystems and the National Association for Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the programme sought to train faculty in Java and give them an exposure of what the industry expects from students.

Visits From Overseas

A group of Principal's visited Alpha During Septemebr '05. This was to understand and exchange ideas regarding the various aspects of classroom teaching. The team comprised of the Education Officer and five Principals of the leading Schools of Singapore. In October there was a visit by the famous Raffels School for exchange of ideas. Boven's School visited Alpha with a team of 20 Students and five Faculty members and had interactions.

A team of 20 Students and five teachers, along with the Heads of institution will be visiting Singapore on April '06. This exchange Programme will be a great exposure for the students of Alpha.
