    Library

    The Central Library provides academic support to all students and faculty of the college. It has a collection of 14,751 text and reference books in addition to national and international journals that deal with the various branches of Engineering, Science, Technology, Management and General Studies. The Institution subscribes to 66 national and 150 online (International) journals, thereby regularly updating the library with recent publications.

    Books are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The Library is equipped with Multimedia Computers with Internet connectivity, CDs, e-books, e-journals, on-line databases and open source resources. Open access system is followed in the library.

    The library is open from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days.





    Pedagogy

    The pedagogy ensures that the students get exposure to theory and practice through hands-on teaching techniques. Academic delivery is done through a combination of innovative teaching methodologies, one of which is student interaction that gives students the opportunity to ask questions and have healthy debates.

    Students are also given opportunities to conduct seminars and present projects at the end of which the presenter answers questions raised by fellow students. This method of teaching and learning lays the perfect platform for sharing ideas and contributing to the wholesome development of every student.





    Minimum Learning Material

    Minimum Learning Material is an online support system, which helps students prepare for the university examinations. The MLM comprises e-books for theory and practical papers based on the syllabus framed by Anna University that encompasses topic wise key point summaries for a quick revision, question banks and lab manuals with sample results.





    Faculty Advisor Programme

    The Faculty Advisor Programme is a unique initiative at Alpha Engineering College that aims to take care of the everyday needs of students both in their academic and personal life. Each faculty member guides a group consisting of 15 students. They cater to the needs of the students, counsel and advise them on various matters including on making the right choice of elective courses (if they are planning to pursue higher studies).Apart from this, the Faculty Advisor Programme helps students unleash their talents in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.





    Student Learning Centre

    The Student Learning Centre was initiated with the aim of helping students interact with their peers and faculty to get any subject related guidance or support. It provides a congenial atmosphere for learning and professional interactions. It can accommodate 500 students at a time and comprises 10 computers with internet connectivity. The Centre has the necessary provisions like, LCD projectors to conduct video presentations that also facilitate effective and healthy discussions between faculty and students.





    Language Department Cell

    Alpha believes in multilingual capabilities as they enable students to integrate into the global scenario. The ability to communicate effectively and skillfully is a fundamental key to development and success in today’s world. French, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and English-speaking and writing capabilities are developed in this cell. In addition, the college provides personality development and soft skill training to students through skilled professionals to help build students’ leadership skills and industrial experiences and inputs from the field of engineering. This training also develops the qualities required to work as a team. The course is designed such that students, especially those who are accustomed to a vernacular medium and have little or no exposure to conversing in English, can proceed to learn it at their own pace. The aim is to teach students the neutralised accent so as to match and understand their foreign counterparts in business and corporate settings. In a nut shell this training programme helps students to improve their personality and professional standards.

    Business English Certificate programme is offered to enhance business English proficiency. This includes training in business English communication with regard to personal identification, buying and selling transactions, travel and conferences, and professional relationships. The programme gives students the confidence and clarity needed to tackle any situation.

    Alpha Portal For Student Excellence

    Alpha Portal for Student Excellence is a comprehensive online portal specially designed for students and faculty to have easy access to information regarding university exams, view resources like the academic calendar, minimum learning material for all the subjects and material required for placement training and prepare for competitive exams like GATE, CAT. Students can also view university exam model question papers, assignment topics, question banks, the previous year’s university question papers, academic videos such as NPTEL for all the subjects, etc.





    Teacher For Student Programme (T4S)

    The Teacher for Student Programme aims to satisfy the subject specific needs of students helping them excel in their University Examinations. Students can fix a prior appointment with any faculty to get their doubts cleared, prepare for paper presentation, project work, seminars etc. The facilities available in the Student Learning Centre are used for the T4S Programme.

    RED RIBBON CLUB


    The Red Ribbon Club of the College works to create awareness amongst students on various issues of crucial importance related to health. It works to create awareness on sexually transmitted infections among youth, HIV/AIDS and sexual reproductive health. The RRC also prepares youth as peer educators/agents of change by developing their leadership and team building skills to help them effectively communicate the awareness received on self-protection and prevention and also to encourage blood donation. For this purpose, the club organises seminars, camps and competitions for students at regular intervals.


    YOUTH RED CROSS


    The Youth Red Cross unit of the College is a constituent of its mother organization, Indian Red Cross. It was started in the College in the year 2006 to create in students, awareness about personal and public health, encourage a humanitarian approach in addressing such issues, promote a spirit of dedicated service and foster affable relationships without discrimination. Every year the YRC wing of the College organizes Blood Donation Camps, Medical Camps, AIDS Awareness Programmes, First Aid Training Programmes, Anti-Smoking Campaigns and Programmes on Environmental Pollution Control.


    NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME


    • At Alpha, NSS organises tree plantation events to tackle the effects of pollution and instil a sense of environmental responsibility in the students
    • The NSS team organises rallies on international awareness days and campaigns to spread awareness on social issues
    • Seminars are conducted to educate the students on the importance of the environment and the means by which it can be preserved
    • Many of the students voluntarily donate blood in blood donation camps


    ROBOTICS CLUB


    The Robotics Club of Alpha strives to stimulate interest in robotics among students of the institute. Well defined goals, organised work structure and motivated members are the reason the club is a successful initiative. The club today is an active platform for students to display and develop their practical machine building skills and knowledge.


    STUDENTS’ FORUM


    The Students’ Forum is an active force in the college that takes part in all the events and activities related to the college such as Tech Fest, College Day and other co-curricular & extracurricular activities.

    HOSTEL


    The college provides separate hostel accommodation to both boys and girls of the college in separate locations. The boys' hostel, furnished with modern amenities is housed within the campus. The girls' hostel is situated in a beautiful and serene location close to the college. They are run in a congenial atmosphere giving students a feeling of being at a home away from home. The students are well taken care of by the wardens who ensure that the students utilise the study hours allocated to them every day in a productive manner. The hostels provide library and internet facilities, maintaining an academic ambience to help the students study with concentration.

    The college canteen is a well ventilated area that serves a variety of South-Indian food and snacks of high quality to students and staff of the college at highly subsidised rates. Adequate seating facilities are provided to accommodate students and staff even during peak hours. It is well maintained with efficient service and has a take away counter.


    The canteen serves students and staff from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on all working days.


    CHAPEL


    The chapel is located in a quiet place, where students and teachers can worship in peace.


    WOMEN'S COMMON ROOM


    The college provides an exclusive common room for women students.


    UTILITY CENTRE


    The utility centre run by the Entrepreneurial Development Cell of the college takes care of stationery needs. The centre also provides snacks for students who wish to grab a quick bite.

    The Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squad that ensure protection to new students against any physical or psychological harassment

    The Discipline and Welfare Committee that ensures the welfare of students by encouraging them to follow rules and regulations set by organisation
